Pricing logic

We take each boutique’s local price and convert it into your home currency. The % shown reflects how much more or less you’d pay compared with buying at home.

What the % means

Positive % = you pay more abroad. Negative % = savings vs home. Zero means price parity for that market and product.

How it works — the details

A quick deeper dive into how Luxury Hedge calculates and presents global price differences.

Pricing logic

We take each boutique’s local price and convert it into your home currency. The % shown reflects how much more or less you’d pay compared with buying at home.

What the % means

Positive % indicates you’d pay more abroad; negative % indicates savings vs your home market. Zero means price parity for that market and product.

Tip: Look for consistent negatives across multiple destinations to spot structural advantage (e.g., VAT-heavy markets with strong refund programs).

Taxes & refunds

Where available, we show tax-inclusive and tax-free options. For tax-free, values reflect typical VAT/GST refund assumptions from official schemes and major operators.

Reality check

Actual refunds can vary by spend threshold, brand policy, documentation, and operator fees. Treat tax-free as indicative until confirmed in store.

Exchange rates

Conversions use recent market rates synced to the platform. We focus on clarity over FX micromanagement — bank card spreads may alter your final effective rate slightly.

Coverage & scope

Brand and product availability varies by country. If a specific home-market price is missing, we fall back to France for comparison logic where applicable and mark the table accordingly.

Free members get limited full-table views to explore the experience. Premium members unlock unlimited product-level comparisons, saved lists, and deeper market snapshots.

USER GUIDE

1. HOME COUNTRY

First select the country you live in. This is an important step as all results are relative to your home. It is important that you have selected the country you live in as your home, and not the country you are travelling to. For example, if you live in Australia (work in Australia, earn Australian dollars etc) you would select Australia as your home country. Then select the brand you are interested in buying.

2. COUNTRY of PURCHASE

After you have selected your home country and brand you will be taken to the results page. Filter the table by selecting the country (or countries) you are travelling to or interested in comparing. These are the countries you want to compare relative prices of. For example, if you were soon travelling to Singapore and the USA from Australia, you might select Australia, Singapore and the US state you are travelling to (we'll say New York for this example). These can be selected using the drop down menu.

3. Tax or no tax?

If you're travelling, you may be able to claim back the tax. After you select your countries of purchase you then have the option to select without tax. Not sure if you will claim back the tax? Select both options in your country of purchase (with and without tax). Some countries have a tiered tax refund system and the amount of tax back depends on the price of the item purchased. For example, if Austria was a potential country of purchase, you will see options for "Austria tax free- purchases up to 1499 EUR", and "Austria tax free- purchases from 1500 to 4999 EUR" etc.

4. Compare your Potential countries of purchase

Review your results by using our luxury hedge index that is tailored to you. Real time data is generated and results are provided and take into account product prices, taxes and real time exchange rates.

Your home country is set to 0%. Any countries of purchase that are less than 0% means that the item will be cheaper to purchase there. For example, an index of -15% (▼ -15%) means that the price in your country of purchase is, on average, 15% cheaper than in your home country (a saving of 15%)! Conversely, if the index amount for your country is 0%, and the index amount in your country of interest is 15% (▲ +15% ) , this means that the price in your country of interest is, on average, 15% more expensive than your home country. The index is based on averages of popular products. It will not give you a guaranteed exact amount of savings or loss, but rather an overview of where to shop to save.

Results are also displayed showing the price difference (percentage increase or decrease) compared to your home country of six popular products. Remember to click the + sign on mobile devices to see the product results. Note: results are not exact, and all website use, and use of the Luxury Hedge index, is subject to the website terms and conditions.

Important note: Where we do not have data for your home country, or where the brand is not sold in your home country, we do not provide the luxury hedge index as we cannot compare to your home country. Instead of an index, there will be a notification stating that results are provided compared to France. As we cannot provide an index, we provide only the product results, and these percentages are compared to France. For example, -15% would mean it is 15% cheaper than France. You can still use this as a comparison for when you are travelling to other countries. For example, country A may show it is +10% compared to France. Country B may show it is -2% compared to France. Results are still tailored to your country's currency and takes into account exchange rates. Therefore it is cheaper for you to buy in Country B.

Table is generating real time data and may take a few seconds to load.

Find the Cheapest Country to buy your Luxury Good with Luxury Hedge

Luxury Hedge tells you the cheapest country to buy your luxury good, taking into account prices, real time exchange rates and tax refunds. The index is personalised for your home country, comparing to what you can buy it for at home, with your home set to 0%.

1. Product Prices:

Luxury Hedge regularly researches and monitors the price around the world of thousands of products across major luxury brands. We obtain the current prices in every market the brand is sold in.  We use this (and daily exchange rates, as well as available traveller tax refunds) to create our brand indexes.

2. Exchange Rates:

We use live exchange rates that update throughout the day. Our index is real time. With so much exchange rate volatility, the prices of luxury goods can be dramatically cheaper, or more expensive, overseas.

3. Taxes and tax refunds:

We’ve researched the VAT, GST and sales taxes of all countries around the world! Shopping tax free is a real way to save when eligible. In some countries, the tax refund increases depending on the price of the good you buy. We’ve taken all this into consideration, where the luxury hedge index will show you the relative prices with and without tax. We’ve also taken into account the commission points that refund companies, such as Global Blue, usually take. For example, even though the VAT rate for some products in Greece might be as high as 24%, you never receive that much tax refund back. It’s not an exact science, but it will give you an indication of whether you will save when shopping overseas.

You can either search for a specific product, a brand overview, or a destination guide.

1. Specific Product

Search for a specific product of a brand by either name, description or product code. Perfect if you know what you are shopping for, or standing in an airport about to catch a plane, and need to make a quick decision! This search will give you the price around the world already converted to your home currency at today’s exchange rate- which means you can quickly browse the prices around the world- both tax free and tax inclusive- without doing any currency conversions! It will also give you the index for the product based on your home country- eg if the index is +15% that means it is 15% more expensive compared to your home country. Finally, it gives you the direct link to the product url on the official product page for the brand for each country around the world. Which means you can also see the price in the local currency of the country you are travelling to, as well as all product photos and information.

2. Brand Overview

Can’t find the product you’re searching for? Or maybe you’re after a general overview of whether the brand as a whole is more expensive or cheaper in the destination you are travelling to. For our brand overview Luxury Hedge picks popular products across a range of lines within a brand. The index is based on the average of these products. We also give you the percentage differences for six products as well. Our results are shown in percentages to give you an overview of whether a brand is cheaper, or more expensive, in a country you are travelling to.

3. Destination Guides

Know exactly where you’re going and that you’re ready to shop? Our handy destination guides gives you quick data on a destination. These guides are based on a brand overview (rather than a specific product) and list each brand index – both tax inclusive and tax free- for a destination. Eg if you’re heading to Japan our destination guides will quickly tell you whether you will save or lose buying Chanel, Dior, VCA and more in Japan.

Select the home country where you live. For example, if you live in Australia the relevant country site is Australia. Do not select the country you are travelling to. Instead, you will be able to filter the results by countries. The following countries have specific websites. All other countries should select ‘International Site”.
